In addition to the annual International Ancestral Commemoration, ADACI sponsors the following programs:
EDUCATIONAL FORUM
The ADACI Educational Forum is designed to examine the implications of slavery, its aftermath, and its effects on the African family. The intent of this analysis is to provide a vehicle for creating solutions to serve as a course of action in removing the barriers to self-determination. Forum participants have included such renowned scholars as Dr. John Henrick Clarke, principle advisor to ADACI; Dr. Tony Martin; Dr. Osiris Skywill; Dr. Jacob Carruthers; Dr. Sterling Stuckey; Dr. Joseph Harris; Dr. Asa Hilliard; Dr. Amos Wilson; Dr. Acklyn Lynch; Prof. Haile Gerima; Runoko Rashidi; Dr. Kevin Washington; Dr. Adejuwonlo Ekundayo; Iyanla Vanzant; Melvin Deal, Evans Antoine, and many others.
INTERFAITH MEMORIAL SERVICE
The Interfaith Memorial Service provides an opportunity for us to spiritually unite with Africans throughout the world by honoring those who came before us in a commemorative service. The speakers at the memorial services have included a number of renowned spiritual and religious leaders representing a variety of organizations: Minister ‘Abdul Alim Muhammad; Prince Asiel Ben Israel; Iyanla Vanzant; Rev. Willie Wilson; Archbishop George Stallings; Nana Nsia Opare; Baba Ifa Karade; Rev. Ambrose I. Lane, Sr.; Ur Aua Hehl Metu Ra Enkhamit; and Heru-Ka Anu.
PAN-AFRICAN CULTURAL CELEBRATION
At the Pan-African Cultural Celebration, we commemorate and give thanks to the African Ancestors for the contributions they made to the world. Participants in the program have included artists from the Washington, D.C. community, who demonstrate in their diversity the continuity of African culture throughout the African Diaspora. Participating artists included: Laini Mataka; Mamadi Nyasuma/2000 Black; KanKouran West African Dance Company; African Heritage Dancers and Drummers; Tayari Casel African Martial Arts Academy; Groupo Capoiera de Angola; KweliSmith; Eraka Rouzorondu; Ayanna Gregory; and Uprising – Spirit of Truth Foundation.
ADACI YOUTH INSTITUTE
An integral part of the Institute is the focus on youth and the development of youth empowerment zones. Since 1995, ADACI’s activities have included an all-day series of workshops for teenagers, centered on youth interests and issues. The workshops treat a range of topics germane to the wholesome and total development of the mind, body, spirit and soul of our young people, including: Budgeting and Financial Management; Entrepreneurial Skills Training; Understanding the Media; Hip-Hop/Rap/Reality; Conflict Resolution; Manhood Discipline; Responsibilities of Sisterhood; Health and Nutrition; Understanding and Controlling Sexual Behavior; Developing Genius; and Spiritual Development.
